The Kid Stays In The Picture by Robert Evans. For anyone who loves movies, this has to be the best book on the behind the scenes machinations of movie making. Evans’ autobiography reveals everything about the man and the movies he was responsible for (The Godfather, Chinatown, Rosemary’s Baby, Love Story, and more) while running Paramount Pictures. It also reveals his love affair and marriage to Ali Macgraw and how he lost her to Steve McQueen. His life is a movie. The book also contains the most famous last lines of any book, those of a defiant ousted studio head, bereft of friends: “F**k them. F**k them all.” I promise you that after reading this book you will appreciate even more how movies are made. A hoot ‘n a half. P.S: The audio book is read by Evans and even after reading the book, it’s well-worth the time (I think there were 6 cassettes) to listen to him tell the story in his own “voice.”
